Report: Ministry opposes bill to block messenger, e-mail users
MOSCOW, Nov 8 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has criticized a bill seeking to block users of messengers and e-mail services, and the initiative is technically impossible, business daily Kommersant reported on Friday.
“(The bill) violates the network neutrality principle, it’s technically unfeasible. We don’t support it,” Deputy Minister Alexei Volin said.
The bill, which was earlier submitted to the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, seeks to block users of messengers and e-mail for distribution of information that is banned in the country. Owners of messengers and e-mail services will be punished with a fine up to 1 million rubles for refusal to obey.
